How many women in STEM?
The participation of women in many of the studies and jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields is not representative.
The shortage of women in careers and professions such as physics (28%), electronic engineering (13%) or computing (15%) continues to reflect a lack of interest of young women for professions linked to natural sciences and engineering.
What is happening?
WHY?
The existing research argues that the scarce representation of women in STEM jobs is partially explained by the negative image that the young people have of the activities and the people who work in them. Negative! It is perceived that they are weird, "geeks", word from the English freak, with dishevelled and informal physical appearance, difficult to collaborate with. But most people working in STEM fields do not identify themselves or conform to this prototype. What can we do?
All scientists at ICFPM are invited to provide new ideas and discuss about it.
